It’s spring here is Wisconsin, which means there’s still a huge pile of snow outside my office window and it snowed yesterday. But it’s also rained about 4 times now, and the roads are fairly salt free. And I see 60s in the forecast, so it’s time to start getting summer cars ready for the road.
I’ve had the SS out a few times so far, but I know it’s due for an oil change. The Chrysler dealer changed the oil before I bought it last June, but I have no idea what quality of oil or filter they used, so I was anxious to get it changed to Mobil 1 with a Wix filter. Fun fact, all of my cars use the same filter and oil. That’s LS love.
Driving a manual up on those ramps was a bit nerve-racking. I may have stalled it...
The little skid plate that covers the oil pan is AWOL so I’ll have to source one of those. Or not, this oil change was easier than my truck.
Oh hey, it s birthday maybe?
What’s everyone else waking up from hibernation?

The only thing waking up for me is pollen allergies. Interesting to me because it never really had an effect on me when I lived on the East Coast, even when my cars were always green/orange from multi-inch layers of pollen . But its like getting hit by a freight train this year in Socal with the flowers and trees just blooming everywhere . Probably due to having near-zero pollen last season so im just not used to it anymore.

Funny thing about the SS they don’t have the cover for the oil pan. My GTO has a skid plate the oil pan, but GM didn’t put one on the SS. They had a plastic cover for aero in Australia during the first year V6s , but removed it when the V8s came out.

I wondered about that. There are a couple of threaded holes in the subframe around the oil pan that made it look like a cover should have been there. The threads were corroded, so I assumed there was a fastener in them at one point.

No hibernating down here, but I really need to get new fronts from my summer set before my backroadtrip in a month.

Up here they ran out of salt since the supplier only delivered half the order. Sounds like a win to me!

I can't wait for it to get warm enough that my summer tires actually grip...

I woke the S600 up 2 weeks ago, but I finally had the chance to have the oil changed today. I had the dealer do it because I wanted to have them give it a general inspection well it was in and the results came back clean. The front right wheel bearing is starting to show some wear but apart from that it’s in tip top shape. I was pleasantly surprised by the price too, $108 for 9.5 quarts of Mobil 1 synthetic+filter and the inspection and complimentary wash. It’s good to have the fast car back out, but now it’s supposed to snow again later this week...
